Gain Valuable Experience as Our Dental Intern in Bingham Farms

Whether as a swim coach or a clinical instructor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Kevin Groth has always had a passion for teaching. It was through this desire to teach that Dr. Groth developed the internship program in 2018 that is designed to educate students who are passionate about pursuing careers in dentistry.

The yearlong internship program seeks out recent college graduates looking to gain firsthand experience in a dental office before attending dental school. During this year, interns work alongside Dr. Groth. They learn not only the fundamentals of dentistry but also Groth Dental’s unique philosophy on comprehensive patient care. Each intern is trained as a dental assistant while being exposed to working in all areas of a dental office, including administrative work at the front desk.

This experience provides interns with a deeper understanding of how all aspects of a dental office function and work together to provide exceptional patient care. At the end of their year, interns leave Groth Dental with a strong foundational knowledge of dentistry, patient care, and how to work as an effective dental team member.

Mikayla, 2018

When I first started at Groth Dental, I knew very little about dentistry. I had no idea what was in store for me, but I knew I had found a passionate and inspired teacher in Dr. Kevin. He didn’t hesitate to take me under his wing and share so many invaluable lessons not only about patient care, but also cultivating a good team atmosphere and implementing your personal and professional goals. The lessons I learned have stuck with me throughout my time in dental school and shaped how I now approach patient care. One of the most crucial lessons Dr. Kevin taught me is the importance of comprehensive, individualized dental care, including taking the time to understand why something happened so that we can prevent it in the future. Patient-centered care is now at the forefront of my values and directs my decisions as a student dentist. Beginning my dental journey here was the best thing that could have happened for my career, and I am so grateful for the team at Groth Dental!

Taylor, 2019

My year at Groth Dental has been invaluable. The internship opportunity introduced me to the field of dentistry in a way that no job or shadowing experience could ever provide. My experience encompassed administrative tasks, assisting in surgical procedures, and understanding how to deliver the best care for our patients, which has allowed me to gain a tremendous amount of insight into the dental profession.  Some of the key takeaways from working at Groth Dental have been the importance of surrounding yourself with a passionate team, a comprehensive and individualized approach to each patient, and continuing education throughout my career as a healthcare provider. My time at Groth Dental has instilled in me the impact that I can have on others’ lives, and for that, I am forever grateful. The mentorship from Dr. Groth has provided me with a firsthand look into the dental profession and has given me a core set of values and principles that I will embrace as I navigate through dental school and my future endeavors in dentistry.

I could not have been more fortunate to have had the opportunity to work as a dental assistant at Groth Dental while applying to dental school. During my time here, I was able to learn a vast amount of information related to assisting, practice management, proper sterilization techniques, and much more. After finishing my internship and leaving for dental school at the University of Michigan, I felt more than prepared to take on the challenges thrown at me while figuring out life as a dental student. Dr. Kevin Groth is a fantastic teacher and leader!
