When you come in for your oral emergency, we’ll examine you and suggest restorative dental care to stop your pain and get your smile back on course. Below are a number of sorts of oral emergencies we frequently deal with, and actions you can take before you come to our office:
- Toothache – Rinse your mouth with lukewarm water, then apply ice or a cold compress to your cheek to reduce swelling and pain.
- Fractured or Broken Tooth – Use ice to alleviate pain and swelling, and bring any broken pieces with you.
- Knocked-Out Tooth – Pick up the tooth by the crown (the visible part in your smile), and place it in a container of milk or saliva. Bring it to the office with you.
- Lost Filling – Temporarily fill the space with dental cement.
- Soft-Tissue Injury – Use gauze or a wet tea bag to stop bleeding in your cheek, lips, gums, or tongue.
- Loose Crown – Apply oral adhesive or toothpaste to the inside of the crown, and try to reposition it. Bring it with you if it won't stay in place.
- Damaged or Loose Dental Appliance – Use dental wax or gauze to prevent any sharp edges from causing further irritation in your mouth.
